Keesha Miles, Emma Jones and Doris McManus discuss useful Websites for Educators

Our group researched many educational websites to find some that will be useful to us and other teachers. We looked at many sites that were hard to use and eventually found five websites that we all liked. In this pod cast we discussed what we did and did not like about these websites.

The sites that we discuss are listed below. These websites are fun educational websites that may be used by teachers, students, and parents. They provide great ideas, printouts, games, lesson plans, clip art, and much more. Some of our favorite things are the talking electronic books, animated/interactive games, interactive 100 number charts, and an interactive calendar. Some of them also have great articles about topics like ADD/ADHD, bilingual education, home schooling, parenting, and literacy. We think that these sites were very easy to use and enjoyed using them. Hopefully, new and experienced teachers will find these sites that we found very useful.

Useful Internet Sites for Elementary Teachers.BW0514MW

Courtney Thomas, Crystal Sumrall and Megan Stokley, search the Internet to locate useful sites that might interest elementary level teachers. We found two helpful websites, starfall.com and funbrain.com. These websites were useful in all subject areas ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade. Students learn by playing educational games that resemble arcade games. This teaching method makes learning fun and successful.

They all agreed that TeacherTube was a useful tool for teachers as well as students. The website has fun filled videos that can inspire teachers in their educational venues. They also realized that TeacherTube is a great resource for students who have learning disabilities.

Jamie McKeough and Heath Lee investigate Wikipedia and try to determine if this new Internet based encyclopedia has any application in an educational setting. They point out some of the pros, such as availability, and cons, such as the ability for anyone to change the information. They also discussed the correct way to use the site, for example using it as a starter site for research.
